CodeAcross BTV on Sat. Feb. 22 & Sun. Feb 23 is a hands-on community event that makes open data useful for public benefit in new ways, like making government transparent, inspiring innovation, or creating accountability. Open data is data that’s usually produced by the government & is openly available for use by anyone.
A statewide conversation about open data is gaining momentum: The City of Burlington Mayor's Office is working on an open data platform and the State of Vermont is also working on one of its own. CodeAcross BTV is a chance to build on this interest & demonstrate the value of open data in Burlington and across Vermont.
Code for BTV will host an introduction to open data and a workshop in the morning on Saturday 2/22 where everyone can explore the opportunities and issues that open data can be applied to solving. It will follow a welcome by Mayor Weinberger of Burlington at 10am. Everyone with an interest in the subject will enjoy the workshop in the morning, and programmers will enjoy two days of civic hacking following the workshop, building real projects that use open data for everyone’s benefit.
You might be interested in attending if you’re a person with a passion for improving your community; a community organizer; from a non-profit or mission-driven organization; a journalist or blogger; an urbanist; a developer; designer or maker; an open data advocate; a government official or staff; or someone with curiosity and optimism that cool new tools can make our neighborhoods and city better!
