It was late fall, 1988. Louise Roomet stood on her porch with a friend looking southwest at Lewis Creek and the hilly land of the Baldwin farm. They talked about how to keep this land, about to be subdivided for development, as it was. Thus began the Hinesburg Land Trust. By March of 1989 Louise and several other Hinesburg residents had begun the work to raise funds and purchase the one hundred acres and a farm house. They were successful.
Now, thirty years later, on Sunday, September 23rd, ,2018 at 4pm the Hinesburg Land Trust invites all citizens to join us at the top of our Gillespie parcel, another piece of HLT conserved land, off Lewis Creek Road, in a special ceremony to dedicate the new stone benches to the memory of Louise.
If you can't make it then, please come anytime to hike the trail, rest on the stones, and read the inscription. We're open year round.
Hoping to see you there,
John Kiedaisch, for the Hinesburg Land Trust
