Washington Electric Co-op members in the 41 towns we serve are invited to attend an informational meeting on the prospective "rate design" changes being considered by WEC.
The meeting is on Wednesday, September 19, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Old Brick Church, in East Montpelier (next door to the Co-op's office).
This is an opportunity to hear from the Co-op's General Manager and Board of Directors about the year-long process through which WEC members have been participating and providing input to WEC's rate structure. Board President Barry Bernstein summarized the reasons behind the change in a recent interview, "The board recognizes this is a significant change, especially since we haven't had a rate redesign in roughly 15 years. Times have changed, and we have to change with them. Global warming is no maybe. It's here now. WEC can address it by working with you, our members, in making our total energy use greener—remember, the Co-op's power portfolio is 100 percent renewable. To do that, we needed to make sure our rates are affordable for people switching their fossil fuel-powered cars and heating systems over to electric power.
The most recent Co-op Currents newsletter has information about the specific changes being considered, here:
