Home Weatherization

Do you own a house that you rent out or an apartment building? Most rentals in N.E. Vt. qualify for incentives to weatherize the building.

Efficiency Vt. and the Craftsbury Energy Committee are hosting a Weatherization Workshop and Incentives for Landlords of Affordable Housing Apartments in Hardwick on Friday, 9/21, 2 - 4 PM. The workshop will be conducted by Efficiency Vt. and 3E Thermal.

There will be an information meeting about the weatherization process, how landlords can qualify for incentives for their apartments, and a tour of the $2 million weatherization project for the three affordable housing apartment buildings in Hardwick.

The initial info meeting is at 2 PM at the Buffalo Mtn. Coop Cafe, Hardwick. Lamoille Housing Partnership, a nonprofit, affordable housing organization, is graciously hosting the tour of their newly weatherized apartments starting at 3:15 PM at 38 Slapp Hill in Hardwick.

3E Thermal provides consultation to the owner, design team, contractors and installers. They provide analysis, work scope recommendations, and savings estimates, and technical support throughout design and construction.

They also provide incentives to reimburse the owner when the work is complete. This is available to owners of affordable apartment buildings, which can be qualified based upon the tenant's income or rent levels. Income qualification is 80% of Area Median Income, depending on household size.

More practical is qualification for incentives based upon the maximum combination of rent and utilities. Those qualifying maximum monthly rental costs are based upon size: Studio: $1,116; 1 Bedroom (BR.): $1,275 per month; 2 BR.: $1,435; 3 BR.: $1,594; 4 BR.: $1,722.

As can be seen, nearly all apartments likely qualify.
