The Champlain Black Marble Company operates the only remaining limestone quarry on Isle La Motte. They are partnering with the Isle La Motte Historical Society to offer this tour. Randy Patnode, a 3rd generation quarryman and manager of the Goodsell Quarry, will be our tour guide. Randy will explain present day quarrying activities and machines, and compare them with historical quarrying operations that occurred on the island. Tour participants will be able to view the active quarry pit and examine multi-ton excavated fossiliferous limestone blocks. Dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Registration begins at 1 pm at the Historical Society Campus (corner of Main St and Quarry Road in Isle La Motte). Registration is required. Cost: $20 per person
