Hi Folks!
The League of Women Voters in the NEK is holding its SEPTEMBER MEETING this coming weekend, on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th, FROM 2:30-4:00 P.M. AT THE UNITED COMMUNITY CHURCH NORTH IN ST. JOHNSBURY (the big grey stone church across from the Fairbanks Museum).
If you have seen our posts reminding citizens of upcoming elections, encouraging them to vote in those elections and to inform themselves before doing so, then you know some of what we do. We also offer voters' guides, candidate forums, and other forums about things like civic civil dialogue, the importance of a free press or other issues important to citizenship. If any of these activities seem meaningful to you, please consider joining us in making them happen! We are a NONPARTISAN, volunteer organization. WE ARE INCLUSIVE! -- despite the name, ALL GENDERS and ALL AGES ARE WELCOME! The "Women" in the League's name comes from the fact that it got its start in 1920 when it became clear that women would finally have the right to vote-- but that those millions of new voters would need to know how to register, how to inform themselves about the candidates and issues, and how to navigate the nuts-and-bolts of actually going to the polls to cast their votes. The League formed and began helping women to do these things, and has been helping people of all ages and genders to do them ever since, as well as protecting voters' rights, and studying and advocating for public policy. Again, we are nonpartisan. We do all of this just to help our democracy to work better!
