If you love history, especially the Civil War era, you won't want to miss this Thursday Topics presenter, Guntis Goncarovs, at Essex Area Senior Center. The raising of the Civil War era submersible, the Hunley, from Charleston Bay in 2000 rekindled historians' interest in the first underwater vessel to sink an enemy ship in battle. While following the developments during the recovery of artifacts while in the Carolinas, amateur historian and author Guntis Goncarovs weaved together a story of the valiant crew from the limited facts which were uncovered. Since publishing his book, Convergence of Valor, Goncarovs has developed a presentation of the facts on which the book is based, and has delivered it to Civil War Round Tables, Military History Museums and book fairs around the country. Goncarovs now lives in New Hampshire and continues to write about historical events at the turn of the 20th century.
