FROM EWE TO YARN TO YOU
The Grand Isle Historical Society is presenting "FROM EWE TO YARN TO YOU"! Join us at the Hyde Log Cabin and learn how Mrs. Jedediah (Elizabeth) Hyde made clothing for her family. We will begin in the Cabin looking at all the tools she needed and samples of the finished products. We will then go to the Block School where Dr. Susan Ouellette, History Professor at St. Michael's College, will tell us how textiles were made across time and spaces during the Colonial Period. Ann Buermann of Paradise Bay Farm will show us samples of wool that Elizabeth might have used from the raw wool to the spun yarn. Kate O'Neill will show us how to take the spun yarn and ply it to get the weight of yarn needed for knitting clothing for the family. Glenda Leake will show us a table loom. Our program will begin at 6:30 PM. Sept. 12, 2018 at the Hyde Cabin on Rt. 2 in Grand Isle. Refreshments will be served.
