Craftsbury Chamber Players – Concert V

Past event
Aug 14, 2013, 8 PM

Wednesday, Aug 14th at 8:00 PM, UVM’s Recital Hall, Redstone Campus, Burlington; Thursday, Aug15th at 8:00 PM, Hardwick Town House, Hardwick

The concert opens with Beethoven’s Piano Trio in c minor Op. 1 played by Monica Ohuchi (piano), Katherine Winterstein (violin), and Frances Rowell (cello). This very early work is charming and lively, and it beautifully represents the classical style in its development.

Johannes Brahms follows in Beethoven’s footsteps with his Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 108 in d minor (1888) played by Mary Rowell on the violin and Marcantonio Barone on piano. Coming towards the end of the Romantic period, this piece is loved for its “lush heart-wrenching melodies and its complex understated rhythms.”

The strings dominate the final piece, the Piano Quartet, Op. 23 for Violin, Cello and Piano (1875) by Antonin Dvorak, also written late in the Romantic period. Typical of Dvorak, this is a gorgeous piece of music, filled with melodies and folk-tunes rising to an exciting finish.

Tickets can be purchased at the door beginning at 7:30: $25 for adults and $10 for students with ID. Children 12 and under free.

In the afternoon of the evening performances, Craftsbury players offer a FREE mini concert for children of all ages and their guests (Wednesday @ 4:30, UVM Recital Hall; Thursday @ 2:00, Greensboro United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 165 Wilson St.).
