The Friday Food Affair has been on hiatus for the summer. Do you want it to return? Do you miss getting together with friends, or making new friends on a Friday evening? Do you miss having someone cook for you at the end of a long week? Do you miss cooking for the community?
The FFA@5 has been around for more than 6 years - but now its future is in doubt. It needs an influx of new folks to help recruit cooks, manage communications and act as liaison with the church. And it needs a supply of cooks who will volunteer 1 - 4 times per year to organize a meal. Maybe we need a new model?
Come to a meeting this Friday, Sept 7 at 6 pm in the Mezzanine of the Richmond Free Library to discuss the future of the FFA@5. This is an important meeting. It will determine if the wonderful, community meal will return as a weekly event, a monthly event, or if it will close its doors..
At a recent meeting of Rise Vermont, a healthy communities initiative (https://www.facebook.com/RiseVT/), when asked what residents of Richmond, Huntington and Bolton would like to see in their community - inter-generational activities and community meals were at the top of the list.
So - what does the FFA@5 mean to you? Can we get some discussion going before Friday? What would it take to keep it going? Over the last year, weekly attendance was between 50 and 80 per week. Seems to me this is something too good to let go away. Can we come up with a solution to mitigate the burn out that has affected the few who work hard to keep this going?
So Please - if the Friday Food Affair @ 5 means anything to you - plan to come on Friday - 6 pm, Richmond Free Library Mezzanine. Tell your friends. If you like the idea of a community place where you can get a meal, share a smile or a story or make new friends, or just relax at the end of a long week - come to this meeting. Make your feelings known. Thank you
