Join us for a book discussion on this year's VERMONT READS book, BREAD AND ROSES, TOO by Vermont author Katherine Paterson will be led by Library Director, Lisa Sammet. This historical novel tells the story of the 1912 "Bread and Roses" labor strike in the Lawrence, MA textile mills as seen through the eyes of a young Italian-American girl and a runaway boy. Exchange your thoughts and ideas about the book. Explore the immigrant experience in America, labor history, and local Vermont history. How does this book connect to Hardwick? The book takes its name from the strikers' banners in the story that proclaimed, "We want bread and roses, too."
