Class in the Craft of Writing Offered by Bethel Writer and Teacher Hilary Mullins

Beginning in February, I will be offering an eight-week class for already-experienced writers who want to improve their skills by focusing on technical elements of the art. Topics to be covered will include elements such as sentence length and syntax; punctuation; word choice; verb tense; repetition; metaphor and analogy; point of view; characterization; form; and structure and plot.

Classes will begin on February 27th and will be held in Bethel on Thursdays, running for two hours, starting at 2pm. The price for the eight-week session will be $125. I will also be available for additional manuscript consultation at $30 an hour.

My credentials: I have an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College and a book, The Cat Came Back, which won a Lambda Literary Award. I was also the first recipient of The Universalist Heritage Foundation’s Sermon Award. Work-wise, I regularly teach a class in public speaking at Vermont Technical College, where I focus on the craft elements of composition. If you would like to get a sense of my writing, you can find some of my essays and sermons online at Numero Cinq Magazine. And if you're interested in joining the class, please email me at hmullins@vtc.edu. Thanks!
