Preview of Council Meeting Aug. 27

Past event
Aug 27, 2018, 5:30 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This Monday, the City Council will convene its second of two meetings for the month of August. We will begin our evening at 5:45pm with an expected Executive Session on CityPlace Burlington. We will then have a work session on the proposed wastewater and stormwater upgrades and bonding to cover these expenditures.

We have three items on our deliberative agenda. The first is a presentation on the proposed renovations to Burlington High School from School Board Chairwoman Clare Wool, Superintendent Yaw Obeng and members of the School Administration leadership along with their architect, John Hemmelgarden. The School leadership will be presenting a proposal to bond for between $60 and $70 million for these renovations and will be asking the Council to place this bond on the November ballot. The vote to approve placing this bond on the ballot will occur at a Special Meeting of the Council on September 11.

Our second item is a discussion on proposed changes to City Council rules.

Our last item is a resolution to establish a Heineberg Community Senior Center Study Committee. Among other responsibilities, the Committee would be charged with reviewing and making recommendations regarding the long-term provision of senior services that reflect the City's commitment to meeting the needs of an aging population in a cost-effective way. This resolution is, in part, a response to the considerable funding cuts from the United Way this past year that created some significant budgetary challenges for the Center.
