In this digital literacy course, we cover the various topics and skills that are considered to be the foundation of digital literacy in the 21st century. The course is directly aligned with Certiport's globally recognized certification Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) and covers three modules:
1. Computing Fundamentals (hardware, software, operating systems, cloud computing, file management, networks, mobile devices, security, and maintenance);
2. Key Applications (apps and applications, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and database concepts);
3. Living Online (internet, media literacy, digital communication, email, contacts, calendar, and social media).
This course prepares students for the IC3 certification exam as well as for Microsoft Office Specialist courses. Additional studies outside of class is, however, expected to successfully pass the three module certification exams. By completing the course and even getting IC3 certified, individuals acquire necessary credentials to be more successful in entry level business jobs, in college, during job searching, and in any setting requiring solid and diverse technology skills, both breadth and depth.
As we strive to make the class as affordable as possible, we will serve coffee/tea/water, but snacks and lunch are not included. However, the course material in electronic format is included in the price.
