"Wells River Stories Seldom Told"

You have probably heard some of the stories about Wells River, like being home of the "world's tallest windmill" at the time it was built or the Fat Man's Club at Hale's Tavern or the flood of 1927, but do you know about "a gas station restroom war" or the "Bank of Newbury misplaced in Wells River?"

The Newbury Historical Society invites to you to hear these stories and more on Thursday August 23, at 7:00pm at the Wells River Congregational Church, Main Street North, Wells River.

Hod Symes, President of the Newbury Historical Society and author of "The Cross Road - A History of Wells River" will tell interesting vignettes of "Wells River Stories Seldom Told" using an illustrated power point presentation. In addition to the above stories Symes has tales about "cow pasture golf", "the "No-Bell" prize in Wells River"and "Tears when Hale's Tavern was torn down?" plus a few others.

Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program. the church is ADA accessible. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, email the Newbury Historical society at newburyhistorical@gmail.com
