Hunting Mushrooms: Guided Foray

Past event
Sep 16, 2018, 11 AM to 2 PM

Are you interested in learning how to integrate local mushrooms into your diet or wellness routine? There are a plethora of accessible, recognizable mushrooms here in Vermont that can be used to supplement your diet, or benefit your health and wellness - and we at Burlington Permaculture aim to equip you with the tools and know-how to begin your adventure into mushrooming!

This Fungi Foray will go beyond the typical "mushroom walk" approach (though we'll absolutely still be walking and talking!), as we dive into mushroom anatomy, reproductive stages, proper collection techniques and foraging ethics, identification strategies, Mycologese (the language of mycology), and applications in human and environmental health.

For this 3-hour tour, attendees should come prepared for walking in the woods and collecting specimens. We'll begin with a short presentation on mushroom anatomy, taxonomy, and morphology, followed by a targeting and fruitful foray into the woods, with segments of informative presentations throughout. Participants will receive take-home handouts to assist in self-guided forays.

We will provide attendees with detailed directions to the parking area for Sunny Hollow, and a list of equipment that you will need to make your day enjoyable.

This event is by donation on a sliding scale, and registration is limited! Register online here: https://bit.ly/2PlLzoX
