Viva Italia! Exploring Your Roots Part II is a four-week memoir-writing class for Italian-Americans focused on embracing Italy and Italian culture. This will be a continuation of the first class held in February with all new writing prompts and readings. You do not have to have taken the first session to participate in the second. The class, which meets in Burlington, is four Thursdays, September 6, 13 and 27, 6:00-7:30 PM and October 4th, 7:30-9 pm and costs $40.00.

Description: We will read and discuss a mix of contemporary writers and poets who've written about Italy. Weekly writing prompts on travel, family, food and Italian culture will inspire us to write our own memoir stories, which we will share with each other in effort to gather positive feedback. Emphasis will be placed on story-telling and having fun, rather than on honing grammar or technical writing skills.

About the Instructor: Kristin D'Agostino is a teacher and published journalist who has been teaching writing to adults for seven years. At 23 she traveled to Italy for the first time to meet her southern Italian family who run a textile factory. Having fallen in love with the culture, years later she self-published a book of her Italian grandmother's family memoirs. Now she is dedicated to helping others preserve their own family stories. If you'd like to sign up for the class or have questions, contact Kristin at k.dagostino@gmail.com or 978-744-0862.

About the class: Payment is due prior to the first class with checks made out to the Vermont Italian Cultural Association (VICA) and mailed to P.O. Box 4054, Burlington, VT. 05406. Class meets at the Burlington Police Department (1 North Ave) in the community room and parking is available in the police station's parking lot.
