Scrag Mountain Music continues its season of innovative, interactive, and affordable chamber music Valentines Day weekend: February 14-16. Bassoonist/rapper Brad Balliett, award-winning violist Nathan Schram and virtuoso clarinetist Nicholas Gallas will travel from New York City to join Artistic Directors soprano Mary Bonhag and double bassist Evan Premo. Together they will present three performances of a program of dance inspired chamber music by the American composers of this generation: Judd Greenstein, Nico Muhly, and Scrag Mountain Music’s composer-in-residence Lembit Beecher.
All concerts are “Come as you are. Pay what you can.” Admission will be collected by free will donation at intermission. The first concert will take place on Valentine’s Day (Friday, February 14) at the Green Mountain Girl’s Farm (923 Loop Road) in Northfield at 7pm. The concert will be precede by a Valentine’s Day supper from 5:00-6:30pm - $20 for adults/$5 for kids.
On Saturday, February 15 the show will come to the Warren Church (Main St. Warren) at 7pm and will be followed by a reception. On Sunday February 16, the concert will be presented at 7pm at the Lost Nation Theater, 29 Main Street in Montpelier.
The program will feature two works by Scrag Mountain Music’s composer-in-residence Lembit Beecher: his "Small Suite" for clarinet, viola, and double bass as well as his "Songs of Remembered Love" which includes the recorded voice of his Estonian grandmother. Also on the program will be NYC composer Judd Greenstein's toe-tapping "Summer Dances." Nathan will perform Vermont native Nicco Muhly's mesmerizing Etudes for Viola and Tape, and bassonist Brad Balliet will rap entire book of Jonah in less than 10 min accompanied by double bass and viola.
