August 22, 11:00 AM-2:30 PM. Bring your picnic lunch, hear the story of Windekind, enjoy the surroundings and gardens with live music and even ride on the train. 2018 marks 50 years for Windekind, the home of Mark and Marijke Smith in Huntington. It is a beautiful place that encompasses their home, extensive gardens, a working railroad and the Commons at Windekind. They have invited your Community Senior Center to visit Windekind and share what they have created in this lovely place. In Mark and Marijke's words, "It is the story about a family staying put in one place and insuring that its beautiful land and buildings endure and are conserved past our lifetime. The Windekind Commons— the community based template that we use-- is a model that, we hope, is valuable for others. It sure has been fun for us, as we age in place."
We offer carpooling from the Huntington Public Library Parking lot, 2156 Main and from Richmond at Volunteers Green.
If you have not already done so, please let martha3@gmavt.net know if you would like to carpool, have questions and if you plan to attend so we have an idea of how many to expect.
