Relocalizing VT Thursday: Solar for All, Indoor Farming

Past event
Aug 9, 2018, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio - how to bring the benefits of solar to low-income people, and an indoor lettuce farmer in Barre.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Distributed energy generation, with backyard or rooftop solar, can be the basis of cost savings for the entire energy grid and leads to a more resilient grid. Plus, it can save money for the system owners. Christa Shute of the Vermont Law School has been working on how to bring the benefits of owning one's own energy source to low-income people. She'll talk specifically about one brand-new initiative from New Hampshire that has potential here in Vermont and around the nation.

Jake Isham is a young entrepreneur whose company Cerest Greens raises lettuce in a warehouse in Barre. He says it's a way for Vermont to grow more of its own greens, especially in the winter. But what about the energy cost of growing entirely under artificial lights?
