This coming Sunday at 1pm, the hills will alive with the sound of music in this "That's What I Call Sweet Music" all-ages puppet production at Brookfield's Old Town Hall. "Sweet Music" follows the troubles and travails of puppetry's favorite loudmouth, Mr. Punch as he sings his way through trouble, adventure, and triumph. Included in the cast are the Bozo Brothers, who delight audiences with their dynamic percussive dance routines. This is hand-puppetry at its best in a style that has entertained children for centuries. In addition to the puppet show, the program also features a mini concert, offering selections from an extensive repertoire of early jazz, classic American folk songs and original novelty numbers, performed on the cornet, ukulele, upright bass, five string banjo, bicycle pump, and the Garbage-ma-tron, an extravagant junk instrument. More info about Modern Time Theater: http://moderntimestheater.com/. Good fun for ages 1-100! Admission by donation.
ALSO! Prior to the puppet show at 11:30am, Modern Times Theater will host a "Junk Music and Sound Experimentation" workshop that REQUIRES RSVP and is limited to 25 kids. Kids will learn that music is everywhere, if you know how to listen for it: right outside the window, coming out of our clothing, and available in the objects of everyday life. Listening exercises, rhythm games, and sound improvisations will develop the ear, as well as offer experience in being part of an ensemble. Participants will then learn to make a variety of functioning musical instruments and noisemakers from common household items and garbage. For both the accomplished musician as well as the novice, these explorations of the uses of non-traditional sound are accessible and fun! RSVP TO GIRARD745@YAHOO.COM BY FRIDAY.
