The 83rd Annual East Poultney Day 2018 will soon be arriving on the Green in East Poultney THIS Saturday, August 11th, 9am-3pm. Please join us if you can--this is a FREE event! Our theme for this year is "Poultney on the Move for Two and a Half Centuries" and highlights include the grand opening of a newly restored & repainted exhibit-classroom in the East Poultney Schoolhouse featuring the exciting new installation of "Milt's Poultney," an operating model train of the D & H railroad line looping through a miniature 1920s Poultney that was created by Oscar Milton McWithey, and donated by his son.
East Poultney Day this Saturday will also feature a speaker sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council-- novelist Deborah Lee Luskin with her program, "Getting from Here to There: A History of Roads and Settlement in Vermont," scheduled for 11am in the East Poultney Baptist Church. Of course on the Green you will find local musicians, demonstrations, activities, as well as unique arts, crafts and food vendors. Don Buesing of Legend Layouts, LLC, the train expert & builder of model railroads from Saratoga Springs who restored the Poultney portion of the model train, will be on hand, too, to talk about the process. Of course, our other historic buildings will be open with docents to answer questions. Don't miss a new exhibit on the second floor of the Melodeon Factory displaying vintage toys from Beverley Drake. In addition, the United Baptist Church of East Poultney and St. John's Episcopal Church will be open, also with docents scheduled for those who want to find out more about these beautiful historic sanctuaries. Last but not least, don't forget to enter the raffle for this year's East Poultney Day drawing -- did we mention this year's GRAND PRIZE is an Amtrak Gift Card worth $200!
