The St. Johnsbury Band will perform its last weekly summer concert of the season this coming Monday evening, August 13th. Our director has saved some of our favorite marches just for this concert and will put the band to work performing them for you. There were 44 musicians in the bandstand for a recent concert including 4 baritones and 5 trombones and some pieces will feature our lower voices. John Philip Sousa's 'Stars and Stripes Forever' will feature our higher voices. We have recently performed an Overture and 'Some Band Rag' by Fred Jewell and have his march 'Quality Plus' planned for this upcoming concert. Also tentatively scheduled is a New Orleans style rendition of 'Just a Closer Walk with Thee.'
NVRH will sponsor the ice cream social with some of the crowd's favorites; Raspberry Roadrunner, Moose Tracks and Chocolate. You may want to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. All concerts are weather permitting, kid friendly and are performed from the bandstand in Courthouse Park; the corner of Main Street and Eastern Ave in St. Johnsbury.
Any and all donations from this concert will go to support the Melissa Jenkins scholarship fund known as the Citizenship Prize at St. Johnsbury Academy. To date, thanks to your generosity, the band has raised over $1000 to support this scholarship.
