Final Bell Concert at NU This Sat, Rain or Shine

Past event
Aug 4, 2018, 1 to 2 PM

Bring a picnic and a lawn chair to the Upper Parade Ground on the beautiful campus of Norwich University and enjoy the final outdoor carillon concert of the summer series. This week's guest carillonneur is Nikita Gratchev from Belgium.

The largest musical instrument in the world, the carillon is played with both hands and feet from a mechanical keyboard. Norwich's carillon, one of only two such instruments in the state of Vermont, comprises 47 bells, the largest of which weighs 3500 pounds.

This event is free and open to everyone, and the grounds are handicapped accessible. Groups are welcome. At the conclusion of the performance, the bell tower will remain open and guests are invited inside to meet the musician, view a demonstration on the instrument, and peek into the belfry for a look at the bells themselves.

Only one concert remains:

August 4, 1-2 pm: Nikita Gratchev
Graduate, Belgian Carillon School

Directions: From Route 12 (South Main St.) go in the main Norwich University gate next to Plumley Armory; head straight up the hill as far as you can go. Park anywhere. Walk to the parade ground and find a spot in the shade. Bring water, as it is supposed to be hot.
