Come and take a walk down memory lane with us! Bunni Putnam, President of the Springfield Art and Historical Society, will present "Springfield in 1913 and 1914," at 2:00 pm at the Nolan Murray Center in Springfield. This program is in conjunction with Springfield Hospital's 105th Anniversary.

June 29, 1913 was when the idea of the first hospital was conceived by the Brotherhood Bible Class of the Methodist Church. It opened on Mt. Vernon Street on February 26, 1914.

We have combed through various Springfield history books, Springfield Reporters, town and school photographs, and other artifacts in the Historical Society collection to give you a sense of what the town was like. By this time J&L (1888), Fellows (1895), and Bryants (1910) were open but no Lovejoy (1917) yet.

Included in this power point presentation will be the Flood of 1913, "The Great White Way" and electricity, schools, businesses, current fashions, transportation, and leisure activities.
