Theme: "Bread and Roses, Too"
Join the Springfield UU congregation and friends for a fun evening of a shared meal, singing, campfire and skit at the beautiful pavilion of the campground. Laurel Green and Steve Crofter will be leading the singing, including labor, immigration and Woody Guthrie classics. This event is part of the Vermont Reads celebration of the book, "Bread and Roses, Too" by renowned Vermont children's author Katherine Paterson. Kids are invited to help create a skit from the book. (Let Rev. Mellen Kennedy know if You're interested.) The skit will be performed as part of the campfire singalong sharing. Healthy snacks will be provided by the Springfield Food Coop.
All welcome. The event is free and open to the public. Kids especially welcome! The event will feature music by Steve Crofter and Laurel Green from CASP, the Community Asylum Seekers Project, whose mission is to provide basic needs and a supportive community for those in the process of seeking asylum in the U.S. here in the Springfield area (caspvt.org). A free will donation to support the critical work of CASP will be gratefully accepted.
The pavilion has a fire pit, bathrooms and electricity. Tree Farm Campground is donating fire wood and marshmallows. Those who wish to, are welcome to bring a tent and camp out Saturday night for the special rate of $5. Campers need to register by letting Deb in the church office (uuspringfieldvt@gmail.com) know by Thursday AM, August 9th.
