COMMUNITY MEETING: "WHAT UNITES US? WHAT DIVIDES US?"
July 31st, 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
At the Marlboro Meeting House, 524 South Road, Marlboro, Vt.

All Voices-   All Points of View-   All Ways of Seeing- Are Needed and Welcome.

THE PURPOSE: Is to change the way we get along with people we disagree with so we can work together for the future.

Join fellow residents & neighbors for discussion in small groups about how our ways of thinking keep us from talking to people we don't agree with.

We need to talk. Let's get some practice. Invite someone who thinks differently to come to the meeting. We can find our way if we talk and listen to each other. Moderated by Town Meeting Moderator Steven John. Hosted by Steven John and Woody Bernhard.

Coffee/Tea/Juice/Cookies/live music.

THE METHOD
We will divide into small groups at tables around the room. Each table will have a talking point card on it with a talking point on the card. We will discuss the talking point within the framework of the meeting guidelines,

TALKING POINTS

MEETING GUIDELINES
Good manners and respect- Speak from your experience ("this is what happened to me" or "this is what happens to me")- Listen to understand the person who is speaking (ask questions)- Everyone gets a turn to speak- No one takes over the conversation- No one criticizes or judges, It is okay to have different experiences, but it is not okay to lecture other people- What we want to do is to listen and understand.
AT THE END OF THE MEETING we will talk about what we thought of the meeting: Each group will report on the experience. The whole group will consider possible action. Future topics. Next meeting?
