August Talk About Books at Guilford Free Library

Past event
Aug 26, 2018, 6:30 PM

Our next Talk About Books gathering will be on August 26 at 6:30 at the library. Talk About Books meets every third Wednesday of the month.

For our August book, we have chosen Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, by David Grann.

We all know the narrative of how Native Americans battled a brutal land grab by an expanding America. The Osage were particularly interesting because they had conspicuous wealth from their oil rights on their land. According to Scott Berg of the Washington Post, Grann is "one of the best" in investigative reporting. . . canny about the stories he chases, he's willing to go anywhere to chase them, and he's a maestro in his ability to parcel out information at just the right clip: a hint here, a shading of meaning there, a smartly paced buildup of multiple possibilities followed by an inevitable reversal of expectations or, in some cases, by a thrilling and dislocating pull of the entire narrative rug."

Sound tempting? Copies of Killers of the Flower Moon are arriving at the library. Call or email the library at staff@guilfordfreelibraryvt.org to reserve a copy. Newcomers are always welcome.
