On Wednesday July 25th at 7 PM, Chandler Music Hall will be the site of a FREE screening of Jonathan Demme's Oscar-winning film "Philadelphia", starring Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington, with title music by Bruce Springsteen.
At the 1996 Academy Awards, Hanks won Best Actor for his performance in the film and Springsteen won Best Original Song. Among the critical praise: "Jonathan Demme's long-awaited [film] Philadelphia is ... expertly acted, well-meaning and gutsy..." "[The film is] compassionate, compelling and emotionally devastating." "...for moviegoers with an enthusiasm for stars like Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington, it may help to broaden understanding of AIDS. It's a ground-breaker like 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'."
This showing celebrates the film's 25th anniversary, and moviegoers will be encouraged to enjoy popcorn as well as beverages in the Music Hall. There will be a cash bar, and popcorn will be by donation to Vermont CARES and the HIV/HCV Resource Center.
Chandler's doors will open at 6 PM, and moviegoers are encouraged to come early to visit the Lower Gallery, where costumes, puppets, and masks of acclaimed performance artist Gabriel Q. are on display; and the Main Gallery, where Bob Eddy's Herald photography and The Herald's darkroom are featured.
