The Clemmons Family Farm is one of only a handful of African-American owned farms in Vermont, and one of the largest at 148 acres. It is currently transitioning to an African American Heritage and Multicultural Center.
The Barn House is actually two historic buildings built between the late 1700s and early 1800s, joined by Jackson Clemmons 20+ years ago when he was in his 70s. The Barn House, itself a work of art, houses Lydia and Jack Clemmons' extensive and colorful collection of African Art, posters from the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the photographs and recorded stories of Clemmons family members extending back to the 19th century, their "For Love of Old Barns" exhibit, as well as the work of Vermont artists.
The tour lasts about 1 ½ hours. If you have questions about the tour, please contact Susan Crockenberg, tour leader at: vtcrocks@gmavt.net. Come join us! If you have an iPhone, please bring it along.
