Flowers of the Field: Music for Chorus, Viola, & Piano

This weekend, including Friday night at 7:30 in Montpelier, I will performing with the Counterpoint vocal ensemble in a program of beautiful summertime choral music accompanied by viola and piano. Details below and you can get a taste for the concert when we visit VPR Classical this Friday at 11am (See http://digital.vpr.net/online-streams for streaming options).

Counterpoint, Vermont's Professional Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Nathaniel G. Lew, presents Flowers of the Field, a varied and inspiring program of classical choral works accompanied by violist Elizabeth Reid and pianist Paul Orgel. The concert includes:

- Říkladla (Nursery Rhymes), a rarely performed set of 18 charming miniature settings of Czech children's rhymes by Leoš Jánaček,
- Flos Campi, one of Ralph Vaughan Williams's finest creations, a suite based on the biblical Song of Songs that is alternately vigorous and rhapsodic,
- Alchemy, the premiere of setting of a Sara Teasdale poem by Vermont composer Matthew LaRocca,
- plus short works by Ernest Bloch, Michael Ippolito, Tawnie Olson, and Richard Stoehr.
