Are you a Vermont landlord who rents out a pre-1978 unit? The Health Department is hosting a FREE Essential Maintenance Practices (EMPs) certification course on July 18 in Brattleboro. Any building built before 1978 is assumed to have lead-based paint, which is a major source of lead poisoning. In 2017, there were 476 Vermont children under 6 years old poisoned by lead.
EMPs are steps you must take to make sure the paint in your rental property is maintained and the unit is cleaned in a lead-safe way. It's also state law. Find out what you need to do to comply with the Vermont Lead Law, and learn more about the important role you play in preventing lead poisoning.
People who complete this course will receive a certificate to confirm that they are EMP-certified.
