Dear Community,
On Friday, July 27th, at 9:00 AM, Vermont Lt. Governor Zuckerman will don his green superhero cape to participate as a member of a mock environmental board to award gold, silver, or bronze ratings to student environmental action plans for the students participating in Middlebury Union Middle School's Wild SCIde (pronounced "side") innovative summer camp. You are cordially invited to attend this presentation.
During the course of the four weeks, 11, 12, and 13-year-old Wild SCIde campers transform into engaged and empowered environmental engineers as they conduct residential, business, and school waste audits, analyze and interpret results, identify problems, brainstorm and research potential solutions, work with mentors from the Addison County Solid Waste Management District (ACSWMD), and develop a plan of action to present to a panel of environmental stewards. This presentation will occur in front of a live audience at 9:00 am on Friday, July 27th, at MUMS, 48 Deerfield Lane, Middlebury, VT.
Along with Vermont Lt. Governor Zuckerman, the mock "Wild SCIde board" is comprised of Dr. Rebecca Gould, Middlebury College Professor of Environmental Studies; Patti Johnson, ACSWMD Business Manager; and Kimberly Bickham, Middlebury College Supervisor Waste Management. These environmental superheroes will hear the three action team proposals and determine the rating--gold, silver, or bronze--for each team's environmental action plan. The students would love to have your support if your schedule permits. The presentation will conclude around 10:30 AM. We hope to involve our community and share the great work of our students.
