A free Youth Mental Health First Aid training will be offered in Barre on July 26th from 8:30am-4:30 pm at the Community National Bank.
To register or for more information, please call 505-8149.
Similar to 'First Aid' and CPR, 'Mental Health First Aid' teaches individuals how to help those experiencing mental health challenges or crises, specifically youth and adolescents. MHFA is a is a nationally accredited, evidence based curriculum that teaches participants the risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among adolescents such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, AD/HD, non-suicidal injury and substance use disorders. The reality is that regardless of what type of work we do, everyone has some interaction with young people, professionally or personally. Whether it is a niece/nephew, our own children, being a youth pastor, a camp counselor, a coach or working directly with youth in another capacity, as a community we have a responsibility to help this younger generation grow to be healthy and safe. Completing the training does not mean you are expected to be a clinician and diagnose, only that you know immediate responses to youth in crisis (similar to basic first aid) and know how to connect them to appropriate resources.
