Talented teen singers and instrumentalists from six states plus Lithuania present an eclectic program of music spanning three continents and several centuries on Tuesday, July 17, 7:30 PM, at South Church on the St. Johnsbury Academy campus.  Village Harmony veteran directors Will and Lynn Rowan welcome singer-director-composer Artūras Sinkevičius from Lithuania. Sinkevičius will lead ancient ritualistic Lithuanian Sutartines chants and lively folk songs accompanied by bagpipes, drums, and zither. These will be contrasted with music and dance from English visiting customs, upbeat Bulgarian dance-songs, 17th century American ballads and "shape-note" tunes, lilting Medieval folk songs, and original compositions by the Rowans.

Village Harmony is an umbrella organization based in Vermont and dedicated to the study and performance of ethnic singing traditions from around the world. Each summer ensembles of both teen and adult singers in New England and abroad develop their own unique sound with international leaders. Their concerts all share common traits – a powerful, natural, vocal sound as appropriate to the many varieties of ethnic and traditional music.

Concert tickets are on a sliding scale of $5 to $15, available in advance through Catamount Arts or at the door.
