Vermont Electric Co-op is offering its members in Jericho (and many other towns), the opportunity to participate in a cutting-edge energy management program designed to make the electric grid cleaner, cheaper, and easier to run. In partnership with a Vermont start-up company, Packetized Energy, VEC is offering program participants bill credits and opportunities to win $500 cash.
Here's how it works: if you have an electric resistance water heater (not a heat pump) and have continuous WiFi at your house, you're a likely candidate to participate. If you're eligible, a technician would install a MelloTM smart thermostat on your electric resistance water heater that would let the heater know when electricity is plentiful and when it's scarce, thereby optimizing when the heater pulls electricity from the grid. The smart thermostat doesn't change the supply or availability of hot water to your house, and you have the option to adjust it at any time, if necessary, directly or using a smartphone app. Individual customer data will be protected.
Kate Desrochers of Packetized Energy will be at the Jericho Town Hall on July 16 at 7pm Jericho's upcoming Energy Task Force monthly meeting. She will provide information and answer questions about this exciting new program.
The Jericho Energy Task Force invites you to come along and see if this program is for you.
