Vt Folklife Center: One-Room Schools Exhibit - Vision & Voice Gallery
In the summer of 1980, Diana Mara Henry began photographing one-room schools and teachers in Vermont, many in Addison County. While one-room schoolhouses persisted in Vermont long after more urban states had moved children into graded multi-room schools, these images from the 1980s mark the end of an era. Henry's photographs, coupled with interview excerpts and text compiled by Margaret K. Nelson, offer a glimpse into a time when students of every age and grade level-and their teachers-gathered in a single room to learn the lessons of the day. Gallery Reception: Thursday, March 6th, 5-7PM with remarks by Diana Mara Henry and Margaret K. Nelson at 6PM. Exhibit Open: February 14th - May 10th, Tues-Sat 10-5PM. Where? Vision & Voice Gallery at the Vermont Folklife Center in Middlebury, Vermont.
