The South Hero Historical Society Excitedly presents Bret Corbin and the
PIRATES OF DINGLEY DELL
- A True Swashbuckling Adventure at a Vermont Boys Camp

Fresh off our presentation about bootlegging, rum running and contraband we went into a presentation about local cemeteries, a natural ending for bootleggers. Now we ask "Who are the penultimate purveyors of plunder and pillage?" To that you answer, "Why, a good old fashioned swashbuckling pirate." And thus the presentation we will be hosting on July 6th at the Folsom school at 7:00PM.

Marine Geologists have said that if you want to study something, go to Lake Champlain as it has one of everything we are interested in. Even a coral reef. Well, socially we have a lot to offer also, but I'll bet none of you thought we had Pirates plying our waters. To that I say "Aye cap'n, therrrre be pirates on them thar waters." These pirates had a safe port as most pirates worth their salt do. Their port was called Dingley Dell on the west side of South Hero. A quiet, little, protected, safe harbor from which the pirates could depart on their fantastic ship [Aladdin] for their latest adventure or MAYBE a mis-adventure. Either way, come listen to our very own resident expert and author about Lake Champlain Pirates, Bret Corbin. Hear the stories of shipbuilding, international trips, arrangements made with local ships for safe passage when the feared JOLLY ROGER was raised. And also, "what the heck does Walt Disney have to do with all this?"

I have heard that we may even get a glimpse into the next book our intrepid author is working on. We can only hope...

And don't bother looking on a map for Dingley Dell, all pirate safe harbors are hidden, you will not find it there. You need to come to the presentation and Bret will enlighten us all to the exciting swashbuckling magical days when Pirates had free run of the waters of lake Champlain.

You hooked yet? "Aye, me hearty, I'll be seein' ya" at Folsom School on July 6 at 7:00PM.
