Mindfulness is what brings us into direct contact with the world. To train in mindfulness is cultivate a way of knowing and a way of being with what is happening in the present moment while it is happening. Mindfulness is our protection in that strengthens our ability to see more clearly, to become more discerning in how we react, to avoid harmful impulses and to act beneficially. It focuses our attention on what can be touched, what can be directly seen and felt. It encourages us to release our grasp and open with gentleness. The course is an inquiry into the various Buddhist practices that support mindfulness.
