Silent Movie...Animated Feature, "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" (1926)......Taken from "The Arabian Nights", the first full-length animated feature tells the story of a wicked sorcerer who tricks Prince Achmed into mounting a magical flying horse, sending him off to a series of wondrous and romantic adventures. A masterful example of silhouette-style animation technique that German filmaker Lotte Reiniger invented, a true breakthrough in cinematic story telling. The technique she used for the camera is similar to Wayang shadow puppets, though hers were animated frame by frame, not manipulated in live action. The original prints featured color tinting, which has since been restored. All action is depicted in the at-times beguilingly intricate silhouette style of animation which Reiniger herself developed. Also on the bill will be several short animation films from the silent era. This is a Free Will Donation Event. Sponsored by, Pam & Steve Douglass
