Disability Rights: ADA 101 Wednesday, July 11, 1:00-2:15 at the UUFB, 108 School St in Bennington. Mike Charron and Ericka Reil from VCIL-Montpelier will be here to explain how specific disability-related laws can impact our everyday lives. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. They will discuss our rights and responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act, including how to interact with businesses that have access issues, what to do when your town sidewalk is not useable, how to have success with the state bureaucracy, who to call and what to say. Come learn what your rights are under the law. Events are free, but registration is required to ensure enough materials and seating. Workshops are designed to honor people with disabilities, but their care givers, service providers and allies are also welcome. Light refreshments provided. These are scent and chemical-free events. Please let us know if you would like an ASL interpreter by the Friday before the workshop you'll be attending.
