Come to the Emile A. Gruppe Gallery in Jericho on Sunday, June 24 at 1pm to hear Julie McGowan, a contemporary luminist painter, give a presentation on the Hudson River School painters. Julie will discuss the primary painters of that style in a slide presentation describing their work through the lens of the social, religious and political views of the period. Her talk is offered in conjunction with the show Lumininous Landscapes of Vermont that opened earlier in the month at the gallery. The show is an exploration of VT landscapes through Julie's paintings and Mary Claire Carroll's photographs. Julie and Mary Claire are both Richmond residents.
In addition to Julie's presentation you can hear both artists talk about their respective work, and the process of their two year collaboration on Monday, June 25th at 1:30pm at the Emile A. Gruppe Gallery. Julie and Mary Claire will walk you through the exhibit and talk about the images and how the artists influenced and inspired each other.
If you want to know more about the exhibit, you can read Jane Vossler's feature article, "Luminous Landscapes of Vermont: A collaboration of two Richmond Artists" in the current issue of The Times Ink. The artists would like to thank the Community Senior Center for putting Monday's event together.
