Please join us on Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30pm @ Brandon Free Public Library.
The BFPL Seed Library will hold it’s introductory town meeting Tuesday evening at 6:30 at the Brandon Free Public Library. Students, farmers, gardeners, growing enthusiasts, and the generally curious are all invited to participate and learn more about this exciting new project that is blooming in Brandon.
Here's a brief recap of our project:
We are partnering with Good Earth Farm at Neshobe to bring seeds to the public!

A brief synopsis:
Some of the goals of our Seed Library are to:
-- Be a self-sustaining project with minimal cost annually
-- Encourage our patrons and community members to garden by reconnecting them to the traditions of growing food, harvesting, and saving seed
-- Educate our community about growing, harvesting, and saving seed
--Create a community-sustained seed collection at our library
-- Nurture a culture of sustainability, sharing, and abundance
The practice of seed saving has been around for more than 12,000 years. Today, seed saving helps us to develop stronger seeds that are better adapted to our unique northern environment. Because seed saving is part of our heritage and traditions here in our agricultural area, it is one way we can come together as a community. When we grow food, our community grows. That’s why BFPL Seed Library is embarking on our pilot year in January, 2014.
In keeping with the spirit of coming together as a community, Good Earth Farm at Neshobe (a local organic farm) has enthusiastically agreed to partner with BFPL to offer education, training workshops, and support around gardening, harvesting, and seed saving. Additionally, startup seed has been donated by High Mowing Organic Seeds in Wolcott, Vermont.
The BFPL Seed Library will be a simple, no-cost service offered to our patrons. The process will be as easy as:
-----Fill out a Member Form
-----Check out seeds just like any library material (no due date or fines assessed on the seed packets)
-----Plant a garden, enjoy the summer, save the seeds
-----Keep some seed, return some to the BFPL Seed Library
