Join the League of Women Voters and Kellogg-Hubbard Library for an informative discussion on the Right to Petition the Government for a Redress of Grievances.

Cary Brown, Executive Director, Vermont Commission on Women, will moderate the panel, getting perspectives on the Right to Petition from attorneys John Franco, Paul Gillies, and Professor Peter Teachout.

Franco was Dean Corren's attorney in his fight against the Attorney General's claim that Corren violated Vermont's campaign finance law. Gillies represented a group of South Burlington residents who sued the school district in civil court, arguing the school mascot "Rebel" name change should have been left to voters of the city rather than the school board. Teachout is Professor of Constitutional Law at Vermont Law School. The Petition Clause gives citizens the right to ask government at any level to right a wrong or correct a problem.
