The Pawlet Public Library, with sponsorship from Stewart's Holiday Match and the Vermont Department of Libraries, begins its free Summer Reading Program for children grades 1-6, on Thursday, June 21, 10-11:30 a.m. The five-session program, following the statewide theme "Libraries Rock!," continues Wednesdays, June 27, July 11, July 18, and July 25, 10-11:30 a.m. at the library.
The program is designed to encourage elementary-aged children to continue reading during summer vacation. Hunter Bassett, Granville, orchestrates the program, encompassing all things rock—from geology to rock n' roll. Parents, grandparents and other caregivers are encouraged to join in to foster discovery and working together cooperatively. Registration is required because space is limited. To register, call 802-325-3123.
The program kicks off on Sunday, June 17, at 3:00 p.m. with a free public puppet theater and music performance by Modern Times Theatre. The performance, sponsored by a Vermont Department of Libraries performance grant, will be held at the Pawlet Town Hall Auditorium. Following the performance, the audience is invited across the street to the library for refreshments and final registration for the free Summer Reading Program.
