Bring your best pie, or just your appetite, to the Centennial Pie Baking Contest and Open House on Sunday afternoon July 1, at the Meeting Place, 100 2nd Street, Newport.
Pies should arrive at 2 PM; judging follows at 2:30, and pie slice sales will be ongoing from 3-5. Proceeds will go to the Halo Foundation benefiting local cancer victims, so you need feel no guilt for indulging your love of pie!
Northeast Kingdom Homecare, Inc., King Arthur Flour, and the Derby Line Village Inn have come together to offer over $700 in great prizes, including first, second and third prizes in three age divisions: Adult (20 and above); Young Adult (15-20); and Under 14. The Grand Prize for best pie of all wins their division plus a fabulous gift certificate to the Derby Line Village Inn.
Pies can be sweet or savory, must use King Arthur Flour, and should be 9" or larger. See contest rules on the Centennial website, nekhc.com, or at various local bulletin boards around the NEK.
Northeast Kingdom Homecare and the Meeting Place are also opening up the house to show folks the inside of what may be Newport's oldest building - the original Baptist Church, now the Meeting Place and home to NEKHC.
