Women's Book Group at First UMC Burlington

Past event
Feb 26, 2014, 7 PM

We are starting a women’s study group whose focus is to read material of a religious nature in order to expand, challenge and affirm their spiritual beliefs. The group will meet once a month at a predetermined location. Participants can expect to enjoy warm hospitality and engaging discussion of various religious and spiritual topics. Women of all ages are welcome. Group membership is not limited by church affiliation.

The group will begin with the book Pastrix: The Cranky, Beautiful Faith of a Sinner and Saint by Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber. Nadia is a rather unconventional pastor in the Lutheran tradition in Denver Colorado. Her congregants include alcoholics, depressives, and cynics. Join us as we learn about Rev. Nadia, “deeply faithful and deeply flawed, giving hope to the rest of us along the way. In short, this book is for every thinking misfit suspicious of institutionalized religion, but who is still seeking transcendence and mystery.”

The Women’s Book Group will meet at 7pm, the 4th Wednesday of each month at The First United Methodist Church in Burlington; 21 Buell Street. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, February 26 in the Chapel. Talk to Rachel Stampul (rachelstampul@gmail.com) or Carrie Seissen (cseis@me.com) if you have questions!
