Please be reminded that the community kick-off event for the discussion about the Essex firearms ordinance is being held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5 at Founders Memorial School's Learning Center, 33 Founders Road. (This is a change from the originally-scheduled location of Essex Elementary School. The correct location is Founders Memorial School.)
As the Town of Essex considers making changes to the Firearms Discharge Ordinance, there will be numerous opportunities for public input. The public process begins with Tuesday's public forum. The purpose of this forum is to provide information to residents, obtain preliminary input, and learn about the process that the Town will undertake to look at the ordinance. Light refreshments will be available.
Additional opportunities for public input will include the following:
-An online forum will be available. A link to the forum will be publicized widely once it becomes available on June 5. This survey will be open to Essex residents through June and much of July. Residents who do not have internet access will be able to participate using computers at the public locations or with staff assistance at community events. More details will be provided when available.
-Self-guided site visits to properties that may be affected by any changes to the ordinance will be available during June and much of July.
-Community engagement events at different times and locations. More specifics will be available after the June 5th meeting.
-The Selectboard will consider the results of the resident input in deciding whether or not to make changes to the ordinance. Any ordinance changes will go through the proper process, which includes public hearings. Meetings for any ordinance changes will be scheduled during the late summer or early fall.
We are still refining the details of these events, but want to continue to update the public about the process. The most up to date information can be found here: http://www.essex.org/firearms.
