The Hinesburg Select Board is holding a public hearing on June 21 at 7pm at the Town Office to get community feedback on proposed revisions to the Zoning Regulations and Subdivision Regulations. These "Housekeeping Changes" represent many years worth of suggested clarifications and refinements to help improve the development review process.
Check out the Town website for all the details (www.hinesburg.org). The website includes a "track changes" version of the regulations so you can see every change (large and small). It also includes a much shorter document that summarizes and explains the rationale for the changes.
Does this sound familiar? It should. Changing zoning regulations is an iterative process. The Planning Commission held a hearing on these revisions in December 2017, and made additional changes based on public feedback before sending the proposal to the Select Board. The Select Board hearing will complete the process - i.e., one more opportunity for public input before any revisions are adopted.
Did the Select Board make any changes to what the PC proposed? Just one. Current zoning prohibits restaurant drive-thrus. The PC proposed to expand this, and prohibit any new drive-thrus (e.g., banks, pharmacy, etc.), with a provision to allow existing ones to continue. The Select Board decided the leave the zoning the way it is - i.e., only restaurant drive-thrus prohibited.
