At 10am on Saturday, June 9th, the Cambridge Cemetery Commission will commence a multi-part cleanup of the Giddings Cemetery off Rte 104. We are looking for volunteers to assist us with this project for a couple of hours. It will include mostly brush and small tree cutting to clear the way for larger tree cutting later this summer.
The Giddings Cemetery is one of the oldest in the Town of Cambridge with many early settlers of both Cambridge and Fairfax buried there since 1801. It is also where George Majors, a Hessian soldier who defected at Bennington and served honorably on the American side for the remainder of the Revoluntionary War, is buried.
The Cemetery Commission will provide water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug dope. If you need directions to the cemetery, please contact Jennifer Bartlau, Sandy Albright, or Kate Clark. Hope to see you there!
